This addition to an existing Shingle-style home in the Hamptons enjoys the mashup of contemporary design against the backdrop of local traditions. To create a new guest suite and gym, the existing roof is extended and then chopped off to reveal a glass curtain wall.
In the process, the peculiar shape of the roof is revealed and celebrated. Along the home’s western side a glass pavilion is tucked under an existing roof to create an outdoor bar and gathering space.
Hamptons House was designed during Matthias Hollwich’s partnership at Hollwich Kushner Architecture DPC, where Matthias acted as principal and lead designer.
