Williamsburg Hotel

Turning a Form into Function

Text by Matthias Hollwich

This hotel sets a new standard for stylish urban hospitality. Its combination of industrial elements and richly textured surfaces stands out just enough from the rugged warehouses along the Brooklyn waterfront.

A Corten steel grid frames the brick facade and a collection of public spaces sit on top of the whole building, overlooking the East River and Manhattan beyond.

Moments of natural character highlight the interior: an inviting cave, a forest of columns, a driftwood bar, and key roof fixtures establish a warm and comfortable interior style.

Williamsburg Hotel was designed during Matthias Hollwich’s partnership at Hollwich Kushner Architecture DPC, where Matthias acted as principal and lead designer.
