Casper Sleep Shop

Innovation in Brick and Mortar

Hollwich Kushner designed the Casper Sleep Shop, the first permanent retail space for innovative mattress brand Casper. The store at 627 Broadway in New York reinvents mattress shopping by introducing playful elements that reflect Casper’s brand ethos. The 3,000 sqft store is filled with oversized and surreal objects that create a whimsical landscape to explore the future of sleep that Casper is creating.

True to their innovative roots, Casper engaged Hollwich Kushner to redefine how mattresses are bought in a retail setting. The store’s design lets shoppers deeply engage with Casper’s products by creating a neighborhood of intimate experiences. Underneath the space’s original 16’-0” soaring terracotta ceiling is a new suspended white grid that visually unifies the space and illuminates the stand-alone objects that dot the store.

No one sleeps in a store, that is why there are six miniature houses – complete with pitched roofs, windows, and their own color scheme. These cozy spaces give customers a chance to sample each mattress and imagine what it would feel like to spend a full night on a Casper. Once they decide on a mattress, shoppers can fit out their bed with Casper sheets and accessories located at the front of the store, and order for carry out or at home delivery.
