The Urban Tech Republic

An Innovation Campus for Berlin

Hollwich Kushner and planning partners HENN Architects received an Honorable Mention for this design to reinvent Berlin’s Tegel Airport into a world-class technology hub. The design creates a unified master plan that accommodates a wide variety of company sizes and creates a new economic hub for Berlin – the Urban Tech Republic. In the former terminal building, a new R&D center holds space for industry, research, sustainable production and living. Universities, international corporations, and innovative start-up companies all share space next to each other. The aim is to develop a sustainable, urban concept that preserves the authenticity of the place and a framework for multi-layered development.
