San Francisco Startup

Cultivating Invention

A 25,000sf manufacturing facility is redesigned into an ‘on-demand factory’ for the online retailer Quirky. The space is both factory and gallery, where 3D printers, aluminum molding machinery and laser cutters are installed in full view of guests and staff. It holds a two hundred seat theater and a steel bleacher which connects the ground and mezzanine levels, transforming into a TV studio where audiences can watch Quirky product demonstrations and events. The upper levels feature staff break-out spaces, an electrical engineering testing lab, and over a hundred workspaces and meeting areas organized to promote collaboration and interaction between various departments.
