An Ice Cream Laboratory

Halfway between an ice cream factory and a laboratory, the new retail and production space for Il Laboratorio del Gelato showcases the most important part of the business—the ice cream.  Using a reserved language of whitewashed walls and floors inserted into a raw urban environment, the design allows the many machines and ice cream chefs to take center stage by providing a pristine backdrop. A custom, backlit polycarbonate ceiling unifies the entire space and visually guides customers through the multi-staged process behind the product, while also ensuring optimal lighting for its employees.
